The IEEE is the world’s largest non-profit, technical professional association, considered the leading authority on a wide range of technical areas. The Boston Section, one of the largest local sections of the IEEE, annually offers over one hundred technical seminars, lecture series, short courses and technical conferences on state-of-the-art topics. The conference is organized by the Boston Section of the IEEE through the Technologies for Homeland Security Steering Committee.

In 2006 the IEEE Boston Section created the IEEE Critical Infrastructure Dependability Initiative (CIDI) to provide an ongoing forum for discussion of issues relating to development, remediation, operation and continuation planning for power, communications, transportation and other complex critical infrastructure networks and systems. Since its launch the CIDI has sponsored or co-sponsored public seminars and technical lecture series.
